Nana Ama Nsia Agiriwah Willock has long been an advocate for building and strengthening the youth, and in doing so has served the community as both an entrepreneur and an educator. Her children’s line of African print clothing, G. K. Fashions, was featured in Essence Magazine and sold in Macy’s Department store.
With over 30 years of service as an educator, she began her career in the Independent Black School system. She is now a retired Assistant Principal who was the leader of her school’s Annex, The K-2 Early Childhood Center, which she built from inception as the school expanded from a 6-8 school to a K-8 school. Post retirement, she gives back to her community by supporting teacher training as a professor at her alma mater.
Nana Ama Nsia, a graduate of the class of 1986, is a priest to Nana Asuo Gyebi. She has dedicated her life to his work and promoting our existence as a people from an African world view. Through Agiriwah Bosumfie, she works with other members of the community to conduct classes about the culture to curious minds. She also promotes traditional African culture to our children. With this goal in mind, Akoben Youth Collective, patterned after the Boy and Girl Scouts, was created from a traditionalist’s perspective, and relaunched in 2022.
In 2021, Nana Ama Nsia was selected to be an inaugural member of the Council of Elders which was established by Akom Kese Inc. According to the wisdom of the elders, obi nnim a, obi Kyere. If someone does not know, someone teaches. She teaches by example.
Nana Ama Nsia holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Medgar Evers College, a Master of Science Degree in Special Education and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration from Brooklyn College. She is married to her best friend Simon Willock and through their combined families is the proud mother of eleven children which includes her blended family and both naturally born and adopted children. She says this is easy when you marry your best friend!
