Okomfo Dr. Adwoa Tano currently serves as secretary of Akom Kese Planning Committee and is a priest to the ancient Akan abosom, Asuo Tano. She lives in Washington, DC where she is a member of Spirit Central. She trained to Asuo Tano in both Ghana and the US and graduated in 2007. She continually travels to Ghana and is part of the Taa Kora (Asuo Tano) shrine in Ghana.
She holds a B.A. in World History, a M. Ed. in Elementary Curriculum & Instruction, and a Ph.D. in African Public Policy, Development, and World Affairs from Howard University. Her dissertation is entitled, Entering the Sacred Circle: A History of the Akan Spiritual Tradition in the United States 1965-2015. She has presented her work in front of audiences throughout Washington, DC including the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
She’s a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Ubiquity, Inc., United Black Community, The African Traditional Spiritual Coalition, and the IKG Ivan Van Sertima Cultural Circles. She also coordinates IKG’s Wisdom Wednesday lecture series, is an IKG Egypt on the Potomac Field Trip Facilitator, an independent researcher and veteran educator. She endeavors to use her expertise to further the ideals and implementation of Pan-Africanism and practical spirituality for African development. She’s enthusiastic about serving the Akom community as part of the Akom Kese Planning Commitee, Inc. Board of Directors. Her motto is “Live.Love.Laugh.Lift.
